PARADE THEME: "Embracing Fort Dodge"
We are preparing for our 31st
Annual Frontier Days Parade, using Central Avenue, Main Street – Fort Dodge, from the Fire Department to the City
Square and the Reviewing Stand. We are
expecting a great parade. There were
over 200 entries last year and we plan for even more this year.
There is a $300 prize, a
$200 prize and a $100 prize for Best Theme Float entries. This is a float that best depicts the parade theme, which is “"Embracing Fort Dodge". Other award categories include a first and
second place for Best of Parade, Best from Outside the City & Best
Commercial. Everyone should try for one
of these awards!!
WHO MAY ENTER? We encourage entries from civic
organizations, clubs, businesses, schools, church and youth groups, bands, drum
and bugle corps, institutions, specialty and support groups, neighborhood
groups, etc. After dignitaries,
honorees, and the military, your entry will be placed on a first come, first
served basis.
We need everyone’s assistance to keep
the parade safe and prevent injuries.
These are the rules for handing out candy or treats during the parade.
Candy (or treats) CANNOT be thrown from
vehicles, floats, cycles, horses, semis, trailers, etc. Only walkers can hand out candy. Walkers must walk close to the curb and toss
candy into the crowd and not on the street.
Many children will run into the street to get candy/treats if it’s lying
on the road. As many of the parade
entries can’t stop quickly, we want to prevent an accident by eliminating the
temptation to suddenly run in front of an entry. If no candy is on the road – no one will be tempted to go after
it and end up in front of vehicles.
Please complete and return
the enclosed Entry Form as soon as possible.
Entry deadline is May 12, 2006.
Placement in the parade is first-come, first-served; so get your entry
submitted quickly to get a good spot.
Each entry will have a
number assigned when we receive the entry form. This sequentially assigned number will be used to assign your
place in the parade. Approximately 2
weeks before the parade, you will receive your parade number and a map showing
where you need to line up prior to the start of the parade.
Frontier Days is a non-profit
event. Please help us to keep costs
down by returning your entry form with a stamped, self-addressed legal size
envelope. We will use this envelope to
return your parade assignment and information.
Please mail your completed entry form, entry fee (if applicable) and a stamped, self-addressed legal sized
envelope to:
Mike and Cindy Mulroney - 368 Loomis Ave. - Fort
Dodge, Iowa 50501
