The Border Plains Country School

The Border Plains Country School is typical of the one-room schools that once dotted the Iowa countryside. Built in 1857 in Southeast Webster County, the school remains just as it was when the last students departed in 1959.

On display in the schoolhouse are early McGuffies Readers, writing slates, Eighteenth Century copy books and certificates of performance and attendance. A large collection of historical textbooks is available for visitors to browse through.

Local school groups still hold pioneer classes in the school during field trips to the museum.
